Reading the Land: The First Decisions of the Build

A homestead isn’t placed on land so much as negotiated with it. Where does the morning fog sit? Which ridge gets the last of the light? Where does the creek want people, and where does it want to be left alone? We’ve been walking the ground with those questions, and the land has opinions.

The early answers are shaping everything: the lodge wants the pasture view and the evening sun; the cabins want the pine shade and their privacy; the pods want the hillside where the stars are darkest. The gardens want the low ground near the spring branch, which is convenient, because the kitchen wants the gardens.

This journal will follow the whole build — the first stakes, the first foundations, the first cabin standing. Founders on the list hear each step first. It’s a long road to late 2027, and we intend to enjoy the walk.
